Facility

Decatur, Illinois Project

The Secure Energy Decatur Gasification Plant is a coal to pipeline quality synthetic natural gas conversion facility planned for an existing industrial site in Decatur, Illinois. The plant will convert up to 1.4 million tons per year of high-sulfur Illinois coal into pipeline quality natural gas.

At the Decatur plant's design capacity of 67,000 mmBtu/day, the plant will have the capability of producing over 20 billion cubic feet of pipeline quality natural gas annually.

Construction Plans & Schedule:

  • The design capacity of the plant will be 67,000 mmBtu/day of pipeline quality gas using 1.4 million tons/year of coal at an 85% annualized capacity factor.
  • Secure Energy will be able to accelerate the development and reduce the required capital by reusing the existing boiler building and infrastructure including, the coal handling system, the electrical system, the water treatment system, the stack, and other components.
  • On April 6, 2007, the Illinois EPA issued an air permit for construction of the plant.
  • The planned construction period is 29-33 months.
